Is that your name there BigMat? Why, I'm sure you didn't even notice ;)

Suspect there might be a few glitches if Wouter Sybrandy is down in 50th (unless that's only taking his post-crash data).

I don't like this. It tells me I'm a bit rubbish. Which simply isn't true.

But on the positive side it also tells me that I am 6 places less rubbish than Il P. :P

I think it depends how many people have ridden the segments that you are high up on - the CS7 / Embankment people should do well, for example. I have a few KOMs on CS7 which probably bump me up the table.

I hope you guys are enjoying. I added London just as the latest version came along, and there have been tweaks continuously since then. On March 13, for example, the first run of a new algorithm captured an extra 1962 segments in the area! Hopefully this sorted many strong KOM efforts that were previously unaccounted for. I've also done a lot on the reporting format to make it more visually useful, but there is still just a LOT of data - especially for London - and the reports are slow loading. Adding pagination is near the top of the to-do list - a way to view riders in groups of 25 or so. For now, I've just limited the reports to the top 100 riders. Keep an eye on it and you should see frequent progress.
I look forward to getting ahold of a decent bike the next time I visit London and giving some of these a go myself!

    Nice little tool.

Most valuable segment is cool too. Lots of Richmond Park ones as to be expected.

    103rd.

    Yay, I'm on the list.
    Damn, just outside top 100.

That ranking is almost exclusively down to my old Balham commute and some CS7 KOMs.
    1/1516 Balham to Tooting Bec 1516 (+21)
1/1225 Tooting Bec to Balham - Between the lights 1225 (+17)
    1/1178 CS7 Tooting Bec to Balham 1178 (+14)
    1.5/1580 Balham to Bec Sprint 1053 (+15)
1.5/1265 Bec Lights to Ritherdon Rd 843 (+10)
    2/1558 CS Kennington to Elephant & Castle 779 (+12)
    2/1224 CS7 Clapham South to Clapham Common 612 (+7)
    1/523 Latchmere Hill 523 (+10)
    3/1557 CS7 Clapham Common to Stockwell 519 (+7)
    3/1429 Balham Hill 476 (+7)

    I've found a bug though
Balham hill only gives me 476 points. That's surely supposed to be 476,000 given the mighty ascent :?

Yep and the fact it was only 20 seconds or so, still gives me nightmares. So much so I've signed up for the Marmotte over two days this year.

Remeber JZed - life is a game of inches. Not my words, but those of Tony D'Amato:

"I don't know what to say, really. Three minutes to the biggest battle of our professional lives. All comes down to today, and either, we heal as a team, or we're gonna crumble. Inch by inch, play by play. Until we're finished. We're in hell right now, gentlemen. Believe me. And, we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time. Now I can't do it for ya, I'm too old. I look around, I see these young faces and I think, I mean, I've made every wrong choice a middle-aged man can make. I, uh, I've pissed away all my money, believe it or not. I chased off anyone who's ever loved me. And lately, I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror. You know, when you get old, in life, things get taken from you. I mean, that's... that's... that's a part of life. But, you only learn that when you start losin' stuff. You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don't quite catch it. The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when add up all those inches, that's gonna make the fucking difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying! I'll tell you this, in any fight it's the guy whose willing to die whose gonna win that inch. And I know, if I'm gonna have any life anymore it's because I'm still willing to fight and die for that inch, because that's what living is, the six inches in front of your face. Now I can't make you do it. You've got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. Now I think ya going to see a guy who will go that inch with you. Your gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team, because he knows when it comes down to it your gonna do the same for him. That's a team, gentlemen, and either, we heal, now, as a team, or we will die as individuals. That's football guys, that's all it is. Now, what are you gonna do? "

Ok, excuse my ignorance but I'm new to the world of Strava. I've been recording all my commuting rides so how do I search Strabba Ranks to see if I feature anywhere or is it just a case of scrolling down the list. I'd like to think that Sydenham Hill counts for something especially on a fixie!

    A couple of updates:
    1) Since this thread was alive I've completely rebuilt the site. There are some kinks to work out and a lot of new features planned yet, but it is MUCH better than before already - especially for a larger area like London. I've renamed it in the process as well to make it easier to communicate during a run: www.sranks.com

    2) I'll be in London this weekend and would love to rent a road bike and jump on a group ride Saturday morning 10Aug. Can anyone offer some good suggestions for an early Saturday ride - anything from 25 to 100+ miles would be great. I'd love to try whatever you guys consider the classic London group ride. I have my pedals/shoes/kit and will be looking to rent a bike - so any suggestions there are welcome as well.

    Thanks much -
    Jerry

    Down to 24th - boo!

Why don't you try emailing one of the big London clubs? London Dynamo could take you on a Richmond Park chaingang, or you could maybe ride out to Box Hill with Kingston Wheelers. Not sure about bike hire.

Hey Jerry - you could go and see Action bikes http://www.actionbikes.co.uk/ for a hire bike. Think they're about £10 a day for a trek 1.5.

OT but talking of strava add ons, this is the most interesting so far.. although it doesn't give a score or handicap to share down the driving range..

  • Thought I'd begin my slow but inexorable rise up the table by targetting a couple of segments each day - been out the Strava game for a while so lost most of the high places I had. Opened the taps on a short segment near the start of my ride this morning, and managed 2nd overall. Thought that'd be good for a few hundred places, but turns out it's been discarded because of a 0.5% downhill gradient. :x

Funk this shoot, I'm out until tomorrow

Down to 83rd which isn't too shabby as expected to completely disappear after 16,000 cyclists jumping the ranks by peleton drafting on Sunday

There were a lot faster peletons than the one I ended up in for the first 24 miles. Its only when I started riding up the outside of the groups from Sawyers to Newlands that I started to move up the placings. Lesson learned for next time.
