Hi,

I need a new wheelset, budget is £150-£200 and except for the obvious Fulcrum, Shimano factory wheelsets the other pair that caught my eye were the Superstar wheels. Having used Superstar bits on my mountain bike for a few years know what they are about but I am struggling to find any reviews of them, or much on this forum.

So my question to you all is are they worth a punt for £140...plus skewers for £28.

I am 75kg and ride mainly flat Herts roads but I am riding to Paris in Sept so could do with some comfort!

I am vain and like the red nipples/skewer combo with my bike.

Why do you need to spend 28 pounds on skewers? Can you not use the ones you have already?

Fair point, nothing wrong with them. Cheers

(I do like the anodised red look though)

I have a set of the straight pull hubs built onto alpha 400 rims. In all honesty the ownership experience has been pants. They have been back twice for a broken nipple and a cracked rim, I assume both caused by high spoke tension. Now the rear wheel has developed a terrible creaking that is either the bearings in the hub or the spokes. Either way it doesn't speak volumes for the quality of the hubs or the workmanship.

I have parts from them for my MTB as well and they have been spot on. But I would never touch them for wheels again. They may have been cheap but I am now going to be buying twice......

Thanks HouseMunkey - I have seen a couple of similar thoughts on other wheelsets. I am drawn to the Fulcrum 5's but really do not want to clean a white hub! Good luck with yours, and their replacements.
