Camping near the trails in North Wales

Hi, planning a trip with my 15 year old son to Wales, was thinking CyB one day, camp overnight, then Penmachno the following day, then back to Leeds.

So, campsite / camping barn / bunk barn recommendations?

Also, what are the trails at Betsy Coed like? I've only ridden CyB (the beast) and Penmachno before ... How does the Marin Trail for example compare? (We'll both be riding single speed hard tails!)

And if we did say CyB and Marin, where is a good place to stay?

Cheers,

I stayed at hafod farm campsite just outside bettws y coed. it's about 30 mins to CyB and about 10 mins to Marin.

Nice little campsite and they do a great breakfast in the morning :D

    Hey,

I was at Betws-y-Coed a couple a weeks ago and rode the Marin trail on one day and then Penmachno on the other. I also did both on a SS bike.

I can only compare the Marin trail with Penmachno out of the ones you listed and TBH it's not as good. There's a lot of fire road riding and the trails aren't anywhere near as long. However, what trails there are are fantastic. If I were up there again for a weekend I'd probably skip doing it because the fire roads are too annoying.

We stayed here: http://www.snowdonia-cwmlanerch.co.uk/. It's a quick ride down hill to the town, good facilities, good ground and a reasonable price.

Was here at the weekend, very friendly, litterally minutes from CYB, and they'll run you up to the pub for a couple of quid (pub give you a free ride back). £8 per night
    Bikes:
Cannondale Killer V 1995 (Promo model) - My first Race bike now converted to a commuter
    Lapierre X-Flow 712 - XC fs rocket
Pivot Mach 6 - Enduro Machine
    Pinarello FP2 - Roadie
  • Went for Cae Gwyn Farm, as recommended by others - small, friendly, cheap, basic but good. Local to CyB. We camped, but options for both B7B and Bunk Barn. Thumbs up from us.

Both of us managed most of 'The Beast' / 'Dragon's Back' on SS, 4 punctures being the thing that held us back! Didn't make it to Penmachno the following day in the end ... was pi**ing it down, so drove back to Leeds and had a ride in the sun instead!
