Overnight on Snowdon

Afternoon All, I'm planning a week in Snowdonia this Summer and am thinking that if the hot weather keeps up it could be good to ascend Snowdon one evening, bivvi overnight on the mountain (obviously not on the actual summit) then ride down first light. Thus avoiding the bike curfew. I have found some info about the rights to rough camp in Snowdonia which seems to suggest that technically you can't but a blind eye gets turned provided you're diligent about litter etc. Does anyone have anything to add to this - I don't want to do it if it's the kind of thing that'd be seized upon by the walkers as ammunition to ban bikes. Also like to know best place to park car overnight whilst I'm there and any other tips for Snowdon.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

  • Avoid the weekends, I bivied on the summit with several others from 3 other groups doing the same thing only to be woken every 30 minutes throughout the whole night with screaming walkers celebrating the completion of the 3 peaks walk.

Pitch a bit lower away from the path and take ear plugs
