Morning folks, I've been set the task to buy some wheels for my brother in-law as a surprise birthday present.

He rides a caad8 tiagra canondale and is 73kg - I've a £250 ish budget, I was thinking of a set of Ultegra 6700's as they seem to get good reviews but am open to any suggestions.

Many thanks.

When is his birthday? As the WH-6800 are due to come out mid August, 11 speed compatible which even if you aren't using 11 speed is a plus as it allows future upgrades.

    Also look at RS61.

End of August, Merlin have the 6800's in stock now at £275. I had considered them for the reasons you mentioned only thing is they're not really tried and tested yet whereas the 6700's are.

I'm pretty sure they'll have been tried and tested by shimano...

Miche 11 speed hubs on whatever rims you loke is another option.

I'd sell my children for an extra £75 and go for some RS80s -

I've had a set for a couple of years now and I love them. When I've worn them out I'll be replacing them with the same.

Yeah been seriously considering the RS80's, every time I look at something else, I end up circling back around to these. 10 speed only compatible which would prevent me from upgrading to Ultegra 6800 - but that in itself isn't a bad thing ;)

Have you checked out the Ribble Shimano wheel sale?

    I've just bought a pair of these http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-t ... himwhfr382

Well below your budget but rather nice with white rims!

Cheers I had seen the ribble sale, the wheels you've bought are really smart. I'm really torn between the RS80's and ultegra 6700 either of which will shed a load of weight of his existing wheels. Hmmmm decisions decisions.......
