176.5km.
Starting in;
YELLOW - Gerrans OGE
GREEN - Sagan Cannondale
POLKA DOT Rolland EUC
WHITE Bloke with a long name OQP

Montpellier, the finish today was first mentioned in a document of 985, was founded under a local feudal dynasty, the Guilhem, who combined two hamlets and built a castle and walls around the united settlement.

Montpellier came to prominence in the 12th century — as a trading centre, with trading links across the Mediterranean world, and a rich Jewish cultural life that flourished within traditions of tolerance of Muslims, Jews and Cathars —and later of its Protestants. It is now the 8th largest city in France and the 3rd city on the Mediterranean coast.

First thread to post the profile gets the nod I believe. Ride on time has the advantage with a bit of local history

I feel like Mohamed Morsi. I've been usurped in my hunt for the local knowledge jersey.

Aix-en-Provence was the birthplace of Frederic Fekkai of hairdressing fame...
and is twinned with Bath. because it has Roman Baths as well (may be).

looks as if Paul Cezanne was keen on painting Montagne Sainte Victoire (a mountain and the most rated local attraction of Tripadvisor)

We are a band of brothers (and sisters) and should, in true cycling tradition, thank Vino's Ghost for his lead out and "gift of this win". Perhaps a thread merge?

I have a research association with Institut d'études politiques d'Aix-en-Provence (Sciences Po Aix).

In more important matters I think we should merge the threads.

I googled "Montpellier little known facts" and went straight to page 10 . I found this...

"Montpellier has confirmed that they have received offers for known Newcastle and Tottenham target Younes Belhanda."

I guess some followers of the Eton game might know that but I didn't.

    EDIT: I don't follow football...

Yes, lets wait by the side of the road and enjoy a glass of the local vino while we nervously re-adjust our cleats thinking have we done the right thing.

I think this is what the Egyptian army are thinking right now... Doing the right thing I mean, not adjusting their cleats and having a glass of Chateau de la Galiniere. :D

There are 60,000 students in Montpellier.
What a lot of crappy bikes there must be around.

The father of famous French physicist Charles-Augustin de Coulomb, he of Coulomb's Law fame, was an Inspector of the Royal Fields in Montpellier.

Seems Chavanel has zero table manners!
@inrng: Sylvain Chavanel fined 100 Swiss Francs yesterday for "eating in a way that damaged the image of cycling." Did he chew with his mouth open?

Apparently the Mistral will be blowing early in the stage but will calm for the finish.

Chucking his gel wrappers onto the road, no doubt. They're getting more and more ars8y about that kind of thing, because the locals are

Quite right too! I bet all of the Johnny Foreigners queue jump at the dope testing at the end of the stage leaving the six stalwart brits standing in an orderly fashion.

There will be crosswinds, but early in the stage so nothing much will happen.
The fairly straight last couple of kilometres helps the power sprinters like Kittel and Greipel so OPQS will want to take charge reasonably early and have Tony Martin with help from Chavanel stringing the peloton out so the others struggle for position. Sagan will struggle to place in the top 3. Maybe outside top 5.

There's too much plastic littering the roadsides already. I bet his own home & garden aren't strewn with gel wrappers.

This the kind of thing where at the first feed station, en-mass, the peleton should stop, get out checkered blankets and sit down to eat with plates, cutlery and napkins tucked in the top of their jersey ... Sadly the french wildcrards would be too scared to be involved ...

Chavanel/OPQS should counter-fine the UCI 200 Swiss Franks for damaging the image of cycling, and tell them they got off lucky ...

Can we have a quick PTP on today's Europcar breakaway rider?

If they ever think of pulling their sponsorship of that team they need shooting. They must have the most televised hours so far

    I preferred Vino`s thread title.

This one is just too much.

Not good about VDB - do not like the guy at all but he is good for a little entertainment with his attacks.
