first road bike

im looking at buying my first road bike, I have a budget of £1000 but needs to included spd's ,shoes and comp.
I want it really for getting fit and trying low to medium sportives when fit enough.
any ideas on a relaxed frame bike then?

    Can,t go wrong with a giant defy and well within your budget for the alu one.

    would a defy 4 be a good starting point? that would leave a few quid for bits and bobs

    I am in a similar position looking for my first road bike. Have fast hybrid at the moment and currently on my list to test ride are

    Scott Speedster
    Cannondale Synapse
    Cannondale CAAD 8

    Curious about how much difference it will really make as I seem to manage reasonable times on hybrid with 700x23C tyres.

    Yes mine is the defy 4, I find it a great starting point and much better on the hill climbs than my old carrera.
