im looking at buying my first road bike, I have a budget of £1000 but needs to included spd's ,shoes and comp.
I want it really for getting fit and trying low to medium sportives when fit enough.
any ideas on a relaxed frame bike then?

Yes mine is the defy 4, I find it a great starting point and much better on the hill climbs than my old carrera.0
