At £850 there are bikes with censored coil forks, bikes with good coil forks, bikes with decent air forks and others with better air forks. I'd expect to see all of them in shops, I'd only buy a bike at £850 with a good fork.
Depends completely on what type of bike. Assuming you mean an ordinary trail/XC bike, then something like a Rockshox Recon Soloair, or some kind of lower-range, air-sprung fork, but a rigid fork might not be unreasonable either.
I got a £750 bike last month with epicon air forks and im pretty happy with them so far , but then it was a Boardman and they are well specced compared to the more established brands.
