Hi All

I'm trying to pool some holiday ideas and don't want to fly with my bike.

Where can you hire a good (ie £1K+ alu or carbon) road bike by the day or the week? Mostly interested in Europe but all options considered.

I'd rather hire and self-guide than go through a cycling holiday business that wants you to use their accommodation or tours. I know some will hire only, so please chuck them in.

I'll get the ball rolling:

Ventoux area
Bourg D'Oisans
Canaries (Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria)
Andalucia (Ronda, Alhama de Granada)
Alicante
Girona
Algarve

Cheers
Paul

Mallorca has plenty of bike hire options - Palma, Pollensa, Santa Ponsa
also several shops at the foot of Ventoux - Bedoin, Malaucene
Bourg d'Oisans has a couple of shops and so too does the top of Alpe d'Huez

If I could afford it I would go to Mallorca every spring for a weeks cycling.
  • Ah yes, forgot Mallorca. Thanks.

I have recent experience of Bourg d'Oisans and Puerto Pollensa in Mallorca - both excellent locations and heartily recommended.
There are numerous options for hiring quality bikes in each location. I used "PromptCC" in BdO.

I believe they do packages with guided rides and accommodation etc but it sounds like you do not want that. I just hired the bike and it was excellent quality, their own branded full carbon frame with Ultegra kit.

I hired a Kuota Korsa Lite from this place in Mallorca last year

Again, good quality kit, they also offer full carbon Moser bikes which looked very nice as well.

I enjoyed Bourg because of the access to TdF iconic climbs but I would say Mallorca is my personal favourite cycling location, easily the most enjoyable time I have spent on a bike so far.

Any one got any recommendations for places in the ventoux area? I'm in the area next weekend and have persuaded the OH a pedal in the area might be nice!
  • There's a big barn like place on the edge of Bedoin on the route to Ventoux that I used.
OK if slightly grumpy service and Trek bikes. They had a lot of stock so we just rolled up and didn't prebook.

There's also a shop around the corner in the centre of Bedoin that does Look bikes and others.

You've got it listed, but I'd definitely recommend gran canaria, particularly in winter. I'm out here at the moment and while the roads are still spectacular, it's a little warmer than my last two visits in january and november which makes the climbs quite challenging. I have my own bike out here (I have family on the island) but my oh has never struggled to hire a road bike when he's come out with me.
