Hi
I posted on here a couple of days back, I have now refined my search a little.
I ride club rides chain gangs and local crit races and some sportives.
I weigh 12st7lb I think
I am looking for a wheelset to cover all bases as far as is possible.
I need to use the aksium wheels from my cannondale cadd9 for my training bike, so something
a bit better as an upgrade.
I like the idea of the hope rs mono wheelset especially for their reliability and sustainability
and comfort I would guess ? But on a shallow note will they look good on my mat black cadd9 ?
Ksyriums sound good in most reviews, the equipe looks a good package with tyres thrown in.
I have also seen a set of 2010 elites for £325, does that sound like the best option ?
Any help would be good
Paul

It's not what you want to hear, but what if you crash and buckle a wheel? Thing is, with factory wheels one crash could mean £300+ down the drain as spares are excruciatingly difficult to get hold of, and pretty darn expensive when you do. What's stopping you going down the hand-built route? Worth considering at the price point you're playing with imo :)

That is the sort of thing I want to hear :) but dont the hope wheels fall into the hand built catagorry ?
I would have thought everything on that wheelset could be replaced and sourced by me.
Thats what I was hoping for anyway

I did talk to strada and they said there was a 1 month wait for wheels, that put me off a bit,
  • Why not try Malcolm at The Cycle Clinic

    http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk/

He recently built a pair of wheels for me.
Really pleased with them and the service. :)

    He posts on here

Ultimately it's down to preference. The ksyriums obviously get a lot of praise so it's not to say they'd be a 'bad' choice. But yeah, cycleclinic guys or Ugo are good shouts. Part of the fun is building a wheel from the base up and getting it tailored to your needs.

I feel I am getting all excited only to be told I will have a big wait

I can recommend the Kysyrium Elites, but there are problems with spares...
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Mine were delivered in under two weeks but it will depend on how busy they are.
Why not send him an email. He was really helpful and patient with me :)

The hopes are machine built and hand finished using replaceable parts.

Yup - the Hope's use Mavic Open Pro rims so spoke replacement is fairly standard. The Hope hubs use replaceable cartridge bearings (though a press and drift are needed if you want to change them by yourself).

One thing to consider with the Hope's is the noise of the freehub.
