Drivetrain replacement - DIY

Ok, so as I'm now a father and no longer have additional cash, the LBS is seeing me much less for jobs which I really should learn to do myself. The next job on the list is replacing my old truvativ isoflow chainset and BB (which came off my old kraken on to the C456) with a nice shiny Deore LX HT2 jobby. My mate has recently replaced his whole drivetrain on two of his bikes and has offered to help me and let me use his tools. The thing is he's replaced shimano with shimano so would we need any particular crank/BB extractor to remove this lot or will whatever he used to remove his shimano stuff be compatible?

Any help appreciated.

If they are both external they use the same tools and Allen keys.

read Parktools it shows all the tools needed. yes yours will need standard tools re remove it and HT2 to fit the new.

Your BB shell faces need to be faced if they have never been done. (LBS job).
