To put an end to the popular phrase "Blondes have more fun" my fair skin means I am a high risk of skin cancer and still managed to catch the sun today despite putting on sun cream!

So, are there any long sleeve baselayers that wouldnt get to warm on sunny days, something like the skins range maybe?

does anyone have any recommendations?

Get some arm warmers instead, just thin lycra ones. Deals aplenty online and Prendas ones get good rep.

thanks for the replies, arm warmers might be the way forward i think!

I must look pretty odd in long tights and long sleeves on sunny days!

My girlfriend has fair skin and has had skin cancer in the past - so has to be careful.

She wears the Pearl Izumi sun sleeves and rates them very highly.

Who cares if you look odd - as long as you're protected.

You can also buy arm screens i.e. arm 'coolers'. Rapha do a set and I think one or two other brands do as well.

    e.g, Craft:

The Craft arm coolers (as posted above) are my fav solution. spf 50 and they really do help you keep cool and look good too, IMO. Work great with just a SS jersey.

You could try Defeet Un D Ice base layer and arm coolers, not sure if it gets hot enough in the UK!

Without wishing to understate the risks of skin cancer - are you possibly overstating your own risk, or are you in a group which is particularly at risk for some reason other than your skin type ? Most people I know with fair skin just use sun block.

I only ask because the disadvantages of cycling fully covered on a hot sunny day are probably self-evident and would probably make it a very unpleasant experience.

I used my Prendas arm warmers yesterday as I had been riding all weekend and my arms were a little red...
Seemed to work fine for me, and they did not get too hot.

there are other factors too, i have a very high number of moles and have had one removed. I also cant get life insurance to cover me for cancer as the doctors notes say I am at a higher than average risk.

but went into aldi yesterday and they had some arm warmers for £6.99, not going to be the best quality but wortha go at that price!!

Being a ginge i have to be very cautious, i have been using the Riemann P20 in recent years but i hate the feeling of suncream - are the craft arm coolers as good as the name says, im happy to keep using suncream if the advantage is cooler arms and protected but would happily buy some coolers if they work?

Now do they do a face and neck cooler?? ;)
