Your fifth thread on buying - why not keep everything in one?I don't do smileys.

I was being constructive - if you keep things in one thread people can refer back to earlier posts instead of repeating everything. And less chance of being ignored.I don't do smileys.

ok fair point. i will stop posting more threads0
-
may i please ask that all that read this thread don't post in it unless you have something constructive to add
You can ask, yes...
Try and ride them, buy the one you like. I'd probably get the Canyon, for no real reason.0 -
Personally - out of the bikes on your list, I'd go for the Vitus. Only cos it looks the most Alp-friendly; more travel, 2x10. 180mm rotors, decent tyres, wide bar etc
And plenty of scope for future upgrades."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

What sort of riding is your bag, what sort of terrain?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Probably been asked in one of the previous threads.
Just saying....I don't do smileys.

"cooldad" has a point, you've linked to 4 bikes with 4 different levels of travel
-
but since you've included a 140mm travel bike and included two direct buy companies, then maybe you should consider this too
Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc 10- CANYON Nerve AM 6 20110 -
It seems to me that you are being influenced by the discount of the Felt?
Personally, I'd go for the Canyon. But if you delete your stroppy posts above and summarise what riding you intend to do you may get some more helpful responses.0 -
my riding is varied. from singletrack to riding around the local national parks. i want to progress and start riding some of the local trails.
i'm not going to be a bit hitter that jumps a lot due to a recurring shoulder injury. i have ridden a full suspension bike before (specialised Supercross SX) with 100mm of travel. was thinking that going up to say 130mm would help me improve and allow me to ride in some places i've not been before.
just want to be sure i buy a bike that i can use and wont hinder my progress0 -
I would have thought 120mm would be a good balance.
The Caynon seems to have lots of happy owners. A Giant Trance is also worth a look if in your size. (the 2013 models are lower specced - 2013 X2 broadly = 2012 X3)

thanks Chris,
i think i am narrowing down further towards the Felt and Canyon. the press fit bottom bracket puts me off the giant for some reason.0 -
The Felt is stifled by rather poor dampers in the suspension units, would expect better for that money.
I'd take a look at this:
http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-92 ... ctFeatures
Great bike for the money.0 -
thanks, but not too keen on that one0
-
How come? Have you ridden it?0
-
just not really interested in it. don't like the look so not too keen on how it rides. it may ride amazing, but it wouldn't excite me when i go to the garage to get her out for a ride.0
-
Your call, but don't buy a bad bike just because it looks good. You'll be even more disappointed on the trail when it performs like a dog. The canyon seems the best bet.0
-
not buying purely on looks. which is why i'm asking about the various bikes. if it was just on looks i would have bought one already. i want a bike that will perform but is appealing to look at too. and looks are subjective too.0
-
Then the Canyon is the one. Light, well specced, always gets good reviews.0
-
will i miss the 15mm front axle or not even notice? never had one before0
-
Not many notice a difference, adds 15% to the torsional stiffness of the equivalent model.0
-
is the suspension much better on the canyon compared to the felt? this is where my knowledge is lacking as I've been away from the bike scene for a few years.0
-
The Felt is a good system, let down by a stubborn, spiky shock.
The Canyon is tried and tested with a good unit.0 -
leaning further and further towards the canyon now.0
-
but then swaying back now and then!!!!!0
