Any bets on someone posting a picture of Tom Platz on this thread? It seems to happen every time someone gets on a leg thing.
Out of curiousity, just how tall is Sir Chris?0 -
I great pics, love to have legs like that!0

Hmmmmm. Only reason I asked is that shorter people tend to have really dense muscles(i.e. Tom Platz) as opposed
to taller people. Although 6-1" is not overly tall. In looking at him in pictures I sort of had him as being shorter.
How old is he?0 -

He's just turned 37. Amazing career. Trains like a maniac, by all accounts. Right now, he's trying to work out whether his body will hold out until the Commonwealth Games next year.0 -

You know, some of these seem strangely familiar...
Wasn't there a thread for procyclist look-alikes?I have a policy of only posting comment on the internet under my real name. This is to moderate my natural instinct to flame your fatuous, ill-informed, irrational, credulous, bigoted, semi-literate opinions to carbon, you knuckle-dragging f***wits.0 -
In 2008 just after beijing Sir Chris was at my Dad's studio as he used to do a lot of photography for Kellogg's, he was there for some Bran Flakes promo shots.
By strange coincidence I also happened to be there and I accidentally had my club skinsuit with me. I'm the same height as Sir Chris and not a small chap.
For reference here is me on the bike.
and here is me with Sir Chris :shock:

Brilliant keepsake that. It beats the usual rushed trackside snap by a long way.0

Can understand why he'd be ready to pack in now, and there would always be the risk that he'd be past his best and not able to get the sorts of results that people expect of him.
What a career though!0 -
So it seems Sir Chris is finally done. It has been great to watch him over the years and I'm sure his (assumed) decision to retire is spot on. If he's not motivated 100% there there is not a chance in hell that he will be able to live with the likes of Kenny at the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and a man like Hoy is never going to be interested unless he's in it for the gold.
What an athlete though. One of the all-time greats of world cycling.
His kilo win in Athens ranks as one of my favourite all-time Olympic moments.You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
Feel privileged to have seen him in action a couple times. A colossus of an athlete. One of the very best of all time - and a nice guy. When he pours it on, it's just incredible to be there to see it. I'm sure the beeb will find a spot for someone of his standing (he doesn't need it - just for the fans!!)0

Not really an all time great when all your achievements (and any subsequent earnings) were secured via public money ...
If he pays it all back, then I'll say he was good at pedalling 250 metres ...0 -

It isn't public money - it's lottery money.Twitter: @RichN950 -
Semantics ... there's a reason it's called idiot tax ...0

Reluctantly joining this off topic nonsense... you could argue most teams - and hence riders - are funded by the public.
Either currently or in the past, I own/have owned or pay for/have paid for:
1. Sky TV;
2. An HTC phone;
3. A T Mobile contract;
4. An account with Caisse d'Epargne;
5. Coffee at Rapha CC in London;
6. Copies of Rouleur from Condor Cycles;
7. Jelly Belly sweets;
8. Sending postcards home from California;
9. Wood flooring in our front room;
10. Quorn burgers.
And that list is without trying. So effectively, I've contributed to paying for the wages of riders from AT LEAST 9 or 10 teams and all that was optional.
Call me an idiot, I suppose.Ben

No, it's not semantics. You have a choice whether you spend your money on the national lottery or not, but you don't have a choice as to whether you pay taxes (at least not in theory...)."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0
