New tyres

Apologies about the common topic but couldn't find my answer on previous threads. I'm returning to mountain biking after 15 years and have got a hardtail to get me back into it. The tyres which came on my Norco are mountain kings 2.2 but the grip is terrible. I'm after preferably a pair I can use all year on trails and the peaks. I'm looking at some maxxis high rollers 2.3 on front and 2.1 on rear? Don't really understand the ply 60a etc either?! So if someone could recommend me it'll be a great help

10 different people, 10 different suggestions.
Google would help, but ply is how many layers in the casing - more = tougher and heavier.
60a is the durometer reading - low numbers = softer stickier and wear quicker.
Bead = steel = heavy. Folding/kevlar = lighter. Normally.

The Highrollers are a common choice, good for allround use. Another suggestions would be These Folding 2.2 Rubberqueens. Again, a very Good allround tyre for the best price i've seen them at on the web.

Partially true, cheap hard compounds will actually wear faster than cheap soft compounds though, in my experience. Not sure why.

HI , Bumping this due to having 10 punctures tonight on my Ardent(front) 2.25 evo and Highroller 2 evo .
Both have 1600 miles on them and they're worn heavily .
I ride trail center's and Alot in the peak district with a fair bit of road

What's Ideal then ?

I would ride a bike not an Alot.

Worn tyres will puncture easily as they have less rubber - buy new ones.

Definitely do this...i had a puncture almost every day with worn slicks. Put a fresh set on (probably thinner than the old ones, but havent had a puncture since. But the same applies for all tyres obviously.
