Just got a promotion at work.
Comes with £6K* pay rise, please suggest some totally unnessesary cycling puchases for me.
*This will equate to approx £350 per month extra to spend on tat and toys.

    One powertap will be fine.

Something small from Rapha, perhaps a cap or neck cowl, should take care of most of your £6k...

Well done you, Sir! That's not to be sniffed at and does at least feel like a pay rise. How's about a new turbo with sensors etc to work with that Powertap and some downloaded video stuff to get that on-road ride without leaving the comfort of home. Might be perfect if Summer goes like Spring is/has.

Something to do with a project?

Those of a certain era will get that. I think?

PS:- No more Colnago Masters. They are supposed to be rare don't you know?

Am I the only one that finds the bragging a tad boring?

I'd probably pay off more of the mortgage myself.

I'd spend most of it on women, alcohol and bikes.

    Anything left I'd squander.

Watching that whopping 3% growth get swallowed up by inflation will be just such fun!

There is that but if you have available funds to spare you would be better off saving for a rainy day (it rains a lot in Europe) or knocking it off a mortgage, I took the thought that the OP didnt have a mortgage as most would just knock the extra off the balance for an earlier, easier retirement.

Most people get super excited when they get a pay rise so I wouldnt say he was bragging, if he has spare cash then thats great and all the power to him.

  • I got a 50% pay rise late last year (More of an indication of how incrediby sh*t my salary was before, than a reason to brag about how much I earn now!) but appear to be just as broke by the end of the month. Any link between this and the start of my cycling obsession is purely coincidental. (If my fiancee asks)

Everyone is normally in the same position, we tend to live to just above our means meaning we want more than we can afford.
A £100k pay rise wouldnt be enough.

    6k = long holiday.
Ferry to Belguim. Do the Classics. Then to Italy through the Alps.
Chuck in Grossglockner and maybe a few others to get to Stelvio etc.
    Milan - San Remo.
Ventoux and the Massive Central then through the Pyrenees to the Atlantic.
    Ferry back.

Pack light, wash as you go, credit card tourism.
Done a week in the SW of England that way on a racer before.

Actually I don't. A pay rise just means my rate of saving increases. I might spend a little more but it makes almost no difference to my outgoings. Makes for far more financial contentment than people who earn far more than me!
