First time on the trails - What clothes?

What kind of clothes do people wear at this time? Something comfortable yet durable I imagine but also warm. Not looking to spend loads, yet, just wondered what peoples advice on this is. Any help would be most helpful! :D

    well i've been wearing some old adidas tracksuit bottoms over some base layer leggings that have done me fine so far and a waterproof jacket.

    You can get some cheap waterproof gear in places like go outdoors, even sports direct online do some inexpensive biking gear.

    its footwear that i need to look at for winter some like hiking boots that are flexible to walk in off the bike as you dont want wet feet and i had that last weekend :(

    I got some cheap base layers for the cold.
    Just jeans and a hoodie on top, extra t shirts if cold!
    Always take spare set coz u prob be covered in mud when u get back to the car. Lol

    decathalon base layers are fab. Just a football shirt or dry fit T on top and maybe some padded shorts for the bum. Gloves and helmet a must.

    I've further invested in a decent waterproof jacket and sealskinz socks. But sure it's near summer now.

    Excellent advice guys. Thanks a lot. Think I'll have a look in sports direct. I know they do trainer type hiking boots which should be useful.

    Hiking type soles are horrible to ride with. Flat and soft is best.

    thanks for that as i was looking at the shimano mtb boot as i wear some trainers at the moment which work well with the pins on my dmr v8 flat pedals.

    SPD's? They don't work well with flat pedals. Stick with trainers, or look at some skate shoes. CRC are selling Duff at £20 on sale.

    If you're wanting to buy some kit:

    Base layer (On one do a good cheap one)
    Jersey
    Windproof

    If you just wanna use clothes that you've got:

    Football jersey is good as it has sweat wicking properties, t-shirts are crap, put them over the fotoball shirt.

    Yep sports direct is good for cheap generic sports tops. Most synthetic material clothing should be fine. You want to avoid cotton as it just soaks up sweat and stays wet.

    Tkmaxx is good for windproof and waterproof jackets. You won't find any Goretex level clothing but you'll find something to keep you dry in shower for a reasonable price.

    The one thing I haven't found a cheap alternative for is padded shorts. I tried some cheap DHB ones and didn't get on with them but the mid range and above stuff is good. My current favourite are Fox shorts very comfy indeed but paid £25 for a padded liner. I was pleasantly surprised recently when I ordered a Fox outer shorts on CRC sale for a bargain price and got a new liner included.

    I generally wear nothing, or just some bib shorts.

    Failing that I go for baselayer/LS jersey/ SS Jersey. Or if its raining ditch the SS Jersey for a waterproof

    On the bottom, baggies and pads.

    Shoes - I just wear trainers

    On the subject, a new member once asked in London Calling in Rides what we did. Probably meaning what we ride. Some idiot said we are just a bunch of guys who go into the woods and take pictures of each other.
    Never heard from him again. And didn't even mention the naked bit.
