Guard (i.e. bash guard) or guide?

    Why do you need it?

    What crankset/chainrings do you have?

Does your botton bracket have ISCG tabs?
  • I'd like to know the same, doesn't look like there is any place to fit it on my 2009 Caldera frame. I'd like some kind of device to stop the chain from jumping off.

Chains don't just jump off. The front mech is a guide, the rear mech is a tensioner.

Comes off at the front or back?
Back set the limit screws on the mech properly.
Front stick an old mech on and set the limit screws for one ring.

You can use a BB mount tensioner.

Depends on the BB, and a tensioner is not a guide.

I know, i call it a tensioner because it winds Beginner up.

That's the frame, not the bb. If you don't have iscg tabs then you need to use and external bb as a mount.

But presumably a cartridge, so you can't.
Unless it's on the seatube, like a mech.

  • I was asking what bottom bracket do i need to run a chain guide or could i run a chain guide on a Pinnacle Iroko 2 2012 Mountain Bike Frame........ not a beginner either just never really dealt with chain guides before have been biking 5 year and am a full qualified mountain bike instructor...

That may be the case but you seem not to be capable of answering questions!

You need iscg tabs on the frame or an external bb if none of those you are forced into using a seat tube mounted device much like a front mech.
  • thanks.. did not know anything about chain guides so was hard to answer some of the questions.. sorry for the trouble
