Looking out the window right now, its still pretty light at 4:40 and I'm thinking of trying to get out of the office early to commute home in daylight for the first time this year. When's your first daylight ride home going to be?

  • Realistically, not until the clocks change. At least, I won't be able to get all the way home without lights until then.

Building a new wheel-set to swap the dynamo wheel with, meaning I'm very excited about the clocks changing.

  • Getting ready last night (putting the lights on the bike etc) I looked around and said "hang on.. what's that big yellow thing?"

Got home just as it was dusk (no sun but a red horizon) at just gone 6. Was a lovely ride home but someone definitely lied about that tailwind

A week or two ago. The benefit of finishing at 16.30 and living on the south coast. :D

    I'll give it a week.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Last Friday didn't need lights though was on shorter hours 9-3 on more normal hours been this Wednesday since it was properly light as rolled home. Though for me depends on shift as I do funny hours at times so even in mid summer need lights from time to time.

Never in my current job unless I change my working pattern. It would be nice to ride home in daylight at 22:00 but very unlikely.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Just emphasises the swings and roundabouts of your location.
It'll be a while here for daylight commutes but come the 21st of June it will be daylight past 22:00.
Make the most of what you get, when you get it. :P

Absolutely. Quarter of the year we get almost no daylight and another quarter we get far more than we need!

On the good news front, the first day of Spring and it's warm enough to use the road bike (ie not freezing)

I raced the sun and the sun won. Had to turn my lights on about 10 mins from home but it was a close run thing.

Apart from the level of the sun this thread is also time dependant.

Depart 06:30, return 18:45 for me.

Even if I was down south, chances are I would still need lights.

1700 finish - south coast - it's been much lighter for quite a few weeks. Back lights are still on, but the front gets turned on later ... not made it home without front light yet.

Both my high power batteries died yesterday on the way home leaving me with my London "be seen" light, not a bad one exposure flash/flare but not good enough yet for country commuting down here in the deep sarf

Not until it's light till 9 before I get a completely light commute home, I get a couple of months per year anyway
