What a tool. Certainly not the easy or cheap fix he claims.

    His comment on ebay that it will cost £12 to repair is pure bullshit. He has cut in to the air resevoir.

    I contacted him through ebay to ask where he got the £12 cost for the repair. He just sent me this reply:

    Bike specialist.

    I have cut the seat tube and nipped the plastic tube inside

    No too hard a repair. Parts would be about £30... Where you can buy them though...

    Just had a quick look at the exploded diagram on SRAMs website and if he has cut through the inner tube assembly then your looking at around a $196 part as the part comes as a whole assembly (cant find an UK based internet supplier), see below, plus you'd probably want to replace the out tube too as a cut will let in water and other material inside the seat post.

    You need the outer and volume spacer only, both are available to order from SRAM and I know of two shops that would get it in for you, but obviously not carry them in stock! Actually, and RS dealer could get it for you... but the wait could be a while.

    Just had a quick chat to the Sram Tech centre and if the air assembly, the 'plastic tube' is damaged it isnt economic to repair.

    Its hard to say as its just a brief description, but it sounds like its the outer and he's sliced a bit into the volume spacer too, but those two parts are pretty cheap. Of course, if when you take it apart you find he's sliced through other bits then maybe a cause for negotiation on the price. All the expensive fiddly bits should have been out of the way either too low or way up higher and the volume spacer would have been 'empty'. Its just a plastic spacer taking up a void to prevent the seatpost dropping too far. not exactly a premium priced part. Hard to say though.

    Well its gone beyond what id play for it based on the uncertainty on the damage caused. Shame really at £30 it be worth the gamble.

    Yeah, at £51 its heading towards £100+ once fixed, plus all the hassle. S/hand ones are not much more without holes cut in them :)
