Change frame or whole bike

I'm 5'6"-5'7" with shortish legs (29" trousers - not sure how this relates to inseam) and feel that my current bike is too big.

I bought a 54cm Cervelo Soloist frame (2006) which was kitted out with Campag Chorus gear - this is a fantasic bike and it all works OK (bought it in Aug last year) but obviously there are signs of wear and tear to the running gear although the aluminium frame is in remarkable condition. I don't know how many miles the components have done.

I find that in order to get the most power I push my body backwards onto the seat and this creates tension in my shoulders and arms. I tried a much shorter stem but didn't feel comfortable with it.

My question is: should I just replace the frame and re-fit the components or should I shell out for another complete bike with say a 50cm frame? I might be willing to spend up £1200-£1500 on a new bike.

I really like the Cervelo and there is nothing wrong with it except it is just too big.

I'm a shade under 5'9'' with a 31'' inside leg and generally go for a 53cm or 54cm frame. Based purely on what you've said I guess that your present frame is too big for you, yes.

You could either go for frame or complete bike; depends if you want to build it yourself and what sort of build you want. Personally I don't like building bikes & think that complete bikes are such great value, that I'd go down that road.

Don't assume that you are 50cm frame though & consider effective top tube length (reach). You could go for a fitting or just try out a few bikes. If buying on line, choose carefully & I'd probably ask around on here before buying.

If you go for a bike fitting with no notion of which bike do they recommend any manufacturer/model based on your measurements and the bikes geometry or do bike fitters specialise in particular bikes?

I'm 5'7", with 30" inside leg and I'm on a 50cm Focus - I find it comfy and prefer smaller bikes for handling.
All the gear, but no idea...

Re fitting - any decent bike shop with a fitting service should be able to recommend a frame to you. Hewitts in Lancashire are famous for fitting, if that helps.
