Garmins team bikes stolen
Apparently 16 of the team bikes from the Garmin team have been stolen.The team were due to start a stage of the tour of the Mediterranean when the theft was dicoverd. The cost of the bikes is thought to be about £150,000 . The team were offered bikes by other teams but have decided to abandon the race.

How can this still happen?? It used to be quite a common occurrence. Surely the security on 150 K must be a substantial investment

I may have spent most of today researching what new frame I want but it wasn't me, honest guv. They'd all be too big for starters.
But seriously, how can this happen? Are they not securely locked up, is the truck not alarmed etc.? Are the riders going to have to start sleeping with their bikes in their rooms?
Who is going to buy them? Surely its a steal to order. You'd be hard pressed to flog those on a gumtree equivalent, non?

I dont know the whole story, but assuming they got away with complete bikes isn't it "standard policy" for bike thieves to strip the components and sell them individually? And if they have any smarts, they will just dump, or hang on to the stuff that's instantly recognizable as Team Garmin? Strangely, I got someone on Facebook who has put up some photos of Santa Margalida in Majorca where one of these trucks has been spotted. Tyler Farrar eating breakfast and a Garmin Bus spotted also.
My old man said the stolen lorry wasn't parked in view of the nearby security cameras so the thieves could take their time getting the bikes off.
