Which lights for rear end of bike?

Made the mistake in picking up one from Tesco (the joys of walking in to get milk and you come out with tons of random stuff).
It was relatively short-lived and I require a decent light for the back side of my road bike (Trek 1.2). By decent I mean - I won't have to constantly open the light to push the battery in slightly for it to operate or any internal water damage.
Any recommendations?

Where do you want to mount it?
Do you have an aero seat post?
What's your budget?
I now have a Giant Numen attached to the aero seat post on my Defy, and a Cateye something or other attached to my seat pack. For the latter I had to buy an extra clip cos thing that came with the light was utterly useless.
It's a tricky question to answer without knowing a bit more of your setup.Is the gorilla tired yet?0 -

Just want a standard RED flashing light to be situated on the saddle pole thingy. Just a simple one that will last long - it will be for road use. Max budget £25'ish

I have a nierider cherry bomb which has proven reliable for the last couple of years. Very bright, easy on batteries, and less than £20.

Moon Comet is worth considering. Got good reviews recently in Cycling +

Bought one on the strength of that review and so far I'm pleased with its performance.
Has dual mounting options so you can fit it to the seat post or to the saddle rails. Continuous , flashing or strobe options and a Li-ion battery charged by USB connector. Can be had for about £300 -

Very bright. Wrap a cable tie around it though as it can fall apart if you hit a big pothole!0 -
The Moon Comet is excellent (just avoid the strobe setting that will completely blind everyone within 1/2 mile and probably induce epilepsy...), low, non-flashing is everything you need. Does need regular charging though.
Other than that my old version of the Cat Eye rapid 5 is the only other light I've found that doesn't have a hissy fit when you get soaked.
I really recommend 2 lights on the rear as you will get home and find out that at some point the batteries failed on one sometimes.0 -

At £2.50 each they are a bargin but very good lights, have seen pics on another forum against other lights more expensive and these equal them. order over £20 free delivery or £2.50 on small orders.0

A fibre flare is a great secondary light for the read (seatstay mount it), they last ages on flashing and is a useful backup in case your main light fails + the oddness of them draws a lot of attention from drivers and is more visible from the side than most standard rear lights.0

Lezyne Micro Drive for me. Not the cheapest, but beautiful made and rechargeable via a USB. The daytime flashing mode is retina-burning bright! Easily detachable for recharging.0

Cateye 1100. Very bright, illuminates on the side and yield's a bigger visible profile than some of the smaller rear lights.0

I do want a 2nd one (I like to have a spare lying around in case the other one messes up) - im trying to look for the RSP Astrium as people have recommended here but can't find it online. Tried ebay and google - nothing. Google is just linking back to forums to people praising it but no physical stores. Any ideas where I can pick a set up from?

Update
Just had the Lunar delivered. Upon entering the batteries, the lights just came on and HOLY cow lol. Ha ha. What are the chances of getting physical abuse from drivers passing by?! Either case, its deffo going up on today!

My Smart 1/2 watt rear light vibrated free this morning and smashed into a dozen pieces so I went to the LBS and bought a Moon Comet.
Jees this new one is bright. I actually think it could hurt your eyes if you follow me for any length of time. Nice and small to with a better way of securing it to the frame too.Wilier Cento Uno SR 2013 in Fluro Yellow

On a more serious note, Planet-X could be doing themselves a disservice pricing their Phaart light range so cheaply. Even though you and I know they are largely the same as lights priced 6x as much, you can see the Price-Quality effect in action on this thread.
