Non SPD, are toe clips worthwhile

As I'm getting used to new road bike, lack of funds is it worthwhile having toe clips or not?

    I'd say yes if you've used them before and are used to them. No, if not.

    No...dont get Toe Clips, get some SPDs asap.
    Its only my opinion..but i think Toe clips are dangerous...very easy to get your foot stuck in them.

    I was thinking of some strapless ones for my flat pedals

    I would like to SPd shoes but they will have to wait

    If you are getting toe clips now then later clipless pedals then isnt it more expensive? Why not just flat, and then get clipless when ready.

    ..toe clips on flats at least give you a bit of solidity and stop your foot slipping - I would suggest you keep the straps loose though, ( i agree having them tight is downright dangerous!) or even do without them as suggested...the toe cup alone will at least stop your foot slipping forward, and it gets you used to positioning the pedal right way round, which you'll need when you're ready to progress to clipless (which you will!)..

    ....some flats will take straps, otherwise you can pick them up on ebay for not a lot and even sell them on for not a lot less.....

    they fit easily to metal caged pedals. I used them for 2 years before going clipless. To be honest there's not a massive difference. They are very easy to get in and out of.You get the 'pull up' if you want to get really power out of the saddle
    You can wear whatever shoes you want with them.They are made of 'conveyor belt' type material so are very strong.

    I might give them ago at £6 versus £60+ on SPd sl shoes I'm not ready for

    Don't think I'll use straps anyways I should I go for traditional ones but no strap

    I'm thinking the more traditional ones without strap as gives foot more support on upwards and forward slippage

    With the item only about £5 and assume postage and packaging would be at least half probably best save the effort and reduce carbon foot print.
    I'm sure someone local would take them.
