Lovely comment on road.cc from The Rumpo kid:

'It appears the Commission actually thought it was independent, and didn't realise that its sole function was to give the UCI a coat of whitewash.'

Of course the UCI didn't want a TRC, those who will take advantage of any amnesty to confess may well undermine the UCI in the process, best to keep those uppity little oiks in their place (shut up) from, UCI's perspective.

If UCI genuinely didn't believe that doping was going on at the time on a large scale, then they are even more stupid than I already thought, their action upon Landis' confession says it all.

More underpants needed to cover their arses!

One problem with a TRC is that unless the UCI are included in the amnesty they are unlikely to provide information or cooperate if the information given by others implicates them. If the UCI are clever they should negoiate immunity as well and then encourage everyone including their own staff to come forward.

Another is any immunity from WADA only covers doping in sport, it does not give immunity from criminal prosecution should the law of been broken in any country (I beleive France and Italy have anti doping laws) also it doesn't grant immunity in the court of public opinion or any protection from civil action from sponsors.

Still it does seem the right way forward and I'd like too see it happen.

Does anyone really think that there weren't extensive discussions between Lance and the UCI prior to the Oprah show?
