Campagnolo 10 speed cassette compatible with 9 speed?

I have recently acquired a Peugeot festina which is fitted with campy 9 speed, would i be able to use a campy 10 speed cassette with this or are they completely incompatible?

Yes a 10 speed will fit but you will ave to move to 10 speed shifters unless you have friction shifters then you can run what you like.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

You will also need a 10 speed chain as the 9 speed is a little too fat for the 10 speed cassette. It will work but it will be noisy where the outer part of the chain rubs against the cassette.0

So what they are both really saying is no :-) ...at least not without chainging things.
If you have 9 speed (assume modern STI) and then install a 10 speed cassette you have 2 main issues.
1. You have no way of selecting all 10 gears as the sti levers only have 9 settings.
2. The chain will foul the casstte as the guage is different from your 9 speed chain.Yellow is the new Black.0 -

Well, you couldn't just slap on a 10 speed cassette and expect it to work fine right away. So long as the gears are tuned to make sure they catch the top nine speeds and sacrifice the lowest (or highest if you wish) and stick a 10 speed chain on it should theoretically work fine.0 -
Cassette spacing is different though isn't it? So if you did that shifting would always be crap.0

As has been mentioned before it would require a lot of tinkering and probably would be crap, but with all that said, it should still be possible.0
