I have no idea what's going on here.

  • I haven't laughed that much in ages - as funny, if not funnier, as the Robin Reliant they did a few years ago.

Credit to Clarkson taking it on the A3 - that stretch is an A road only because it doesn't have a hard shoulder.

I was trying to stop as I was struggling to breath! The Reliant was ultra-funny too :D

  • Ah good, it wasn't just me that nearly asphyxiated then - that was when he put his face on the screen.

Telling Bannantyne he couldn't understand him made a little wee come out.

Was it really that funny? I watch Top Gear for the first time in a while last night and just found the whole thing a bit tired and repetitive to be honest. The original piece on the Peel P50 was way funnier. If he genuinely took it on the A3 rather than it being some clever TV trickery or having various escort vehicles protecting him then he's a fool rather than some kind of comic genius. Also, did you notice the lack of space he gave the cyclist he passed?

I used to really enjoy Top Gear but it's time it had another refresh or was put out of its misery altogether now.

I'm still enjoying it so I hope your wish doesn't come true. 8)

    Agree. It's had it's day.

I found it mildly amusing :) although clearly a filler article as it had no motoring merit whatsoever (even less so than the rest of what is effectively a light entertainment porgramme masquearding as a motoring magazine).

I used to really enjoy it, but agree it's starting to look a bit dated now :(

I'm even slightly annoyed that some of my TV License fee goes towards this :|
  • I thought it was getting tired and repetitive 2 or 3 years ago. The challenges were the same, just location and vehicles changed but you could predict what would happen.

And I resent the fact that on a channel funded by licence payers, Clarkson makes millions by being involved in the production and then selling the programme around the world.

BBC bought out Clarkson's commercial rights to Top Gear last year. Previously, the commercial arm for Top Gear was established with Clarkson having a 30% stake, some other bloke 20% and BBC took 50% - at a cost of £100. Not a bad investment.

Top Gear has made the BBC a lot of money over the years and will make more for many more in re-runs alone even if it does not last much longer in terms of new shows.

I think Clarkson has sold up to avoid the tag of "BBC highest paid star" which partially led to Ross's downfall - phone messages aside.

  • I enjoyed it, even though the format is silly. No one in their right mind would watch it to find out anything about cars.

As someone mentioned, the best bit was when he told Bannatyne he couldn't understand him, I actually LOLed at that.

    It's just good telly.
    Is the gorilla tired yet?

The P45 segment was pretty funny, but the Dragon's Den part of it was painful and pointless.

It makes so much money for the BBC that they can pretty much do what they like these days. It's mildly entertaining telly (I think 'good' would be overly generous), but it could certainly do with a refresh.

The presenters are all good at what they do (even Clarkson, who is only perpetuating a caricature), they're just overly self-indulgent with the nonsense features.

I'm no big fan of clarkson, and I too think top gear is a bit past its sell by date, but that P45 bit was a cracker. Even the mrs laughed, and she can't stand him. Harsh, but when he told Bannatyne he couldn't understand him I was creased.

When I saw the title of this Thread I feared Willhub had folded already.

Should have known he'd got more sticking power, besides how is he ever going to pay for all his hot dates?
  • It is just three bloke titting about, mostly with cars. I think it has got rather tired, but it sells very well, and gets huge audiences - indeed, the Beeb has made a massive profit on it over the years, so no worries about the international jaunts; it's worth it.

Certainly it is head and shoulders clear of the tripe the BBC turns out - mainly celebrity drivel and 'easy access' science (take one Brian Cox, place in exotic location, talk gently about science and Staaaaaars.

The only other thing worth watching on the Beeb recently is Bettany Hughes, for her ample knowledge of history... and stuff. Lucy Worsley is strangely attractive/watchable, despite talking in the wettest manner known to mankind.

P45 section was funny, however the Bentley Continental rally piece was absolutely riveting. Never expected such a massive, powerful car to handle so well on a WRC stage.

No-one else is putting much physics on TV and Wonders of Life DID have a reasonable amount of good science in it. How many average Joe's know what a proton gradient is?

Brian Cox is certainly a bit of a marmite presenter but he is at least attempting to get across some complex ideas to the wider masses.

Do you think you could use that rear pop up wing to attatch a saris bones bike carrier?

I don't think it would fit over the wing. I suspect at a tow bar mounted carrier might be the best solution !

I don't find her attractive as such, but I get the strange attraction. I feel the same way about Miss Hooley off of Ballamory.
