New bike in the house

Another new bike in our house, my 13 year old sons first road bike.

Decathalon Triban 3

45cm frame Alloy frame
Carbon forks
Shimano front, rear mechs and shifters.
650 wheels.

He has already a few upgrades in the post including R540 pedals.
A lot of components will be swapped over for Sram Force inc front rear mechs and brakes, when my new Sram Red bits arrive.

    Lovely, very very nice... how do you find the Omega rims? Is the braking smooth or you do feel a judder at the rim joint?

    Cant say i ever noticed any judder.

    Nice, I'd be interested to see what he thinks of this after a few miles on it, my friend is after a bike for about £300 and there really doesn't seem to be anything else about as good as these for the money.

    I bought mine afer having to relinquish a fleet of high end bikes to cover my end during a period of prolonged unemployment. And its the best £300 I ve ever spent. I wouldnt go too O.T.T with the upgrades unless of course he doesnt get on with the thumbshifts on the sora 2300 and you want him to get used to double tap.

    I ve changed the rear casette on mine as the O/E looked like it was made from Tin. and fitted an old Ultegra triple I had lying around because I wanted the 53 top ring instead of 50. I ve put some 105 calipers on it and wish I hadnt as the BTWIN are lighter and just as good. and I took the silly clamp spacer off and put in some carbon ones.

    In retrospect other than the gearing its not really that much better than standard. I would change the tyres and possibly the wheelset, otherwise just let him ride it until he wears it out.

    The SKS Commuter gaurds needed Sheldon Brown Problem solvers to go on but other than that its sweet.

    Dont know if I ll bother to upgrade for the summer as I really cant justify it the "original bike" is that good.

    Oh go on them maybe a carbon post and stem and Toupe and a set of 105 open pro handbuilts. (Damn I m at it again)

    P.S Sorry Nap I dont do OCP and it had just finished 52 miles on Sunday (hence the suitcase I always carry enough spares for the whole club)
