old skool Z1 'Zochis lock out not working

got a pair of Z1 free rides on my mtb
the lock out adjuster has snapped but you can still turn the adjuster with a pair of pliers but has no effect on the forks.
the forks basically lock out as your are riding/ put weight over the front of the bike
but an gradually returned to uncompressed state after 30mins or so.
anyone any ideas?

Pah, they're not old. I've got '01 Z1 Bomber coils on the Inbred and they are still butterzzzzzzzzzzzzz.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

I don't go for none of this new fangled stuff. 2000 Z1 CR's on my playbike0 -
they never had a lock out.
