I live 1/2 mile from the mtl and I'm fed up of the wet boggy muddy snorkel needed trails. Is there any dry trails in or near rossendale, that are dry at the moment?

  • Not after a route per se, just local knowledge of the conditions.

The quarries aren't too bad, Dunnockshaw Community Woodland / Crown Point trails are generally Ok, Gisbun is wet but not particuarly muddy and Lancs CC / Tony Lund have started a program of works to fix some of the worst bits of bridleway in the area as part of a PMBA project!

  • The dunnockshaw ones are atrocious at the moment! They're the ones most local to me, the mtl from there to the ram inn is ridiculously boggy and has to be walked mostly on the return leg....not much fun really.

I might check out hameldon hill to kings highway, see if it's any better on that side of the valley.

Hambledon Hill is usually pretty bad beyond the mast towards the King's Highway. Most of Dunnockshaw is OK, the walking trails up on the top. The bit below the singing ringing tree is admittedly a little weird what with the way the ground moves under the geo textile with all the water.

Just been over Dunnockshaw this morning, I retract my statement about the trails being OK, I couldn't believe how gloopy some of the surfaced sections have become with all the surface mud!

  • Yep they're just so bad it's become boring. The mtl link route and mtl to gorple rd is the worst I've ever seen it.

  • Did you go onto the non surfaced bits? They are even worse, some places are up to the axle deep in sticky watery gritty shite.

I was mainly up on Crown Point, that was bad enough.
