Front Mech query

Silly question but does anyone know what the difference between a triple and double front mech? Will a triple mech work with a double chainset? I'm assuming it just has a bit more travel on the springs and might therefore be a bit bulkier

    Triples are longer than doubles so a double may not be long enough to guide the chain onto a granny ring whilst a triple mech may well foul the inner ring of a double or compact.

    Google 'difference between triple and double front mechs' and you will see the various types.
