Hi,

I have one of these for my commute:

I have upgraded a few bits since buying it new a few years ago, and was wondering what is the widest sized tyre this will accomodate? I have a set of fulcrum racing 7s if that makes the blindest bit of difference, but I understand that this isnt necessarily the major factor. I was hoping to get something nice and wide / durable for the appalling cycle paths on my comute. Some recommendations here would be much appreciated too. :D

Thank you

Keep in mind that wider tyres have a larger diameter, so your bike has to have enough clearance. Probably a 25mm at most, 28mm is unlikey and is not safe on a small rim. Another problem with calipers and wide tyres is that you may not have enough brake cable slack to remove the wheel easily. So you'd have to deflate it slightly to get the tyre past the brake shoes.

Continental Gatorskin Hardshells are specifically designed with extra puncture resistance for commuters and the like. They also provide good grip for the winter. If you do decide to get 25mm tyres then you could also consider Schwalbe Marathon Plus.

Them's wot I ride all year round. Spose the clue's in the name. If we had summer months of hot, dry weather I might choose a lighter summer tyre, but since we rarely have the same weather 2 days in a row I think the 4 Seasons are the best all-rounder.

Are the 4 Seasons much better in the wet than the GP4000s? I have been thinking of buying a pair of these but at this time of the year in Yorkshire I am likely to have seen the last of any sustained dry periods (ha, I snort derisively at this as I type - extended this year has meant more than an hour) until the spring.

I'd be interested to know this too, as the GP4000s are what I will be swapping out for the 4 seasons (for the winter at least).

PS. I've Got Vittoria Rubino's on my "good" bike - they're sh*t IMhumbleO
