oof, another dumb question but will a 9 speed shimano rear mech work with a 10 speed cassette?
googling seems to give conflicting results. :?
obvioulsy I am talking about using compatible shimano 10 speed shifter (and 10 speed chain) . Since the shifter controls the amount of pull ... so it should right? but will the bigger sprocket 36 T be a problem?

Shifter controls the amount of pull, but the linkage dictates how far that pull moves the mech0 -

To summarise....
You can use a 9 speed mech on a 10 speed cassette ONLY if you use Shimano flat barred ROAD shifters, 10 speed MTB shifters will NOT work with a 9 speed mech.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
