M980 Jockey wheels on M972 Mech

Hi,
The jockey wheels on my Shimano XTR M972 9 Speed Rear Mech are worn out and need changing. Unfortunately I bought Jockey wheels for the XTR M980 by mistake (These are 10 Speed ones).
I have checked on the shimano website and the references are not reported as compatible. To be fair they look the same but who know, one might be thicker than the other one.
Can anyone confirm if I can use the 10 speed jockey wheels or not with my 9 Speed XTR mech?
