Headset cups

Out of curoscity, why do headset cups have to be pressed in, why can't they screw in like BB cups?

Just a thought.

    Some BBs have caught up and are now pressed in.....

    You need a thread somewhere for preload, headsets used the steered, BBs the shell as doing it in the axle would be pretty much impossible on cottered axles.
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    why do BB cups even need to be threaded?

    it just adds cost.

    Just a bit easier to fit than press fitting.

    Throwback to when BB's were a unit (I suppose many still are) or loose balls and needed to stay in place.

    Throwback to cup and cone BB's, (came long before units!) and needed something threaded, BB shell easier than axle.

    nope. many lose ball have press fit cups.

    How?

    press fitting is simple and easy to remove.

    but then anything is if you have the correct tools.
