    30% merino - bear in mind. The last ones were a bit more scratchy than other merino tops I have had.

    Off topic but picked up some lidl base layers for a tenner the other day and they are supurb! I did have to scrub myself clean after going into lidl though. Urgh.

    Don't bother with the shoes. Way too much flex in the sole. I went onto pull them apart on my commute within a few thousand miles (around the cleat mounting within the sole). Waste of £19.

    Use them on commutes and long day rides - longest was 130 miles. They were absolutely fine. A great bargain. Only minor issue is they are quite long for the size (narrow fit) so that plus cruds on the commuter means loads of overlap but that's hardly a real issue. Oh, and one of them occasionally goes into a mild squeak mode!

    I think the shoes are good quality, 4000 miles in mine and still going strong. Used them on a few 90+ mile rides and have been comfortable, get the occasional squeak when out of the saddle but for the money they are an absolute bargain. I'm toying with the idea of getting another pair as I've been so impressed.

    Also the fleece jersey was used all last winter and kept me nice and toasty. The longs are ok but little baggy, I would buy a size smaller than usual if I was getting those again.

    Really re: the shoes?!

    A few thousand miles is equal to a 4 or 5 months of commuting for me. I finally threw them out after doing the wiggle dragon ride in them and afterwards I noticed I'd pulled the metal parts of the sole out of shape. Can't say I didn't give 'em a chance.

    I replaced them with a pair of £50 specialised shoes and the difference is amazing - much more direct, much better at sprinting.

    Maybe it's just that I'm generating so much power through my legs that the shoes canna take it :wink:

    +1 for Lidl - got some of their stuff and it's ace, gilet was £6 and really handy

    Anyone have any pointers on the sizing of the Aldi gear? I am heading over there tomorrow in search of some base layers and just wondering if they are going to be Euro or UK sizes.

    Sounds like it will be jumble sale crazzeee in Aldis' tomorrow, you do get what you pay for remember, base layers yes, some of their other stuff, well you pays yer money......

    Have always found Aldi clothing to come up small. I'm 5'8" and average build but always need L or XL in size. I only have small hands but still need large in Aldi gloves. Try on before buying.
    I'm not getting old... I'm just using lower gears......

    I bought a few items last year. I'd buy the merino top again. Winter jacket, no. The waterprroof pants never got used. Socks are ok.

    But the best item was also the worst item and that was the reflective LED arm bands.

    Put one of these on each calf in flashing mode. Because your legs are going up and down, the reflective band and the LED's create a very noticeable effect to other road users. That's the best bit. Unfortunately, last year's model was not that reliable and by the time spring came again, all four had failed. I will try again this year and buy two packs.

    I got down there today at 8 (first time to one of these things) and it was packed! Well, a lot more people than I expected anyway (15+) things were flying off; picked myself up some overshoes and long trousers as well as a tri-suit all for £36 - wish I'd seen the bit about £5 off in the Mirror though... ah well.

    I found the opposite this morning. Bought a soft shell jacket and had to go for a medium. Normally XL for Italian stuff or large for UK gear.
    Lots of cyclist rummaging through the gear at 0800 this morning:-)

    small gaggle of men browsing round the bins this morning at my local Aldi, all a bit self-conscious lining up trying on the jackets for size. I loaded up with gloves, jacket and undershirt. Cant go wrong at that price.
    Bit disappointed not to bump into triathlon girl.
    Size-wise 43" chest here, normally buy XL T-shirts but the L jacket was fine, XL being a bit baggy, the L undershirt was very snug, could have gone with XL here.

    Spent just over £50 in aldi sopretty much sorted for this winter. I think its superb value for money. Is expect some snobby cyclists to frown as I ride past looking like I've come out of the aldi catalogue. As for sizing I'm a well built and broad fella and normally have to have anything from DSL to xxxxxl in santini tops and find the xlp to fit well from aldi to fit ok.
