Brakes and rotors

Hi - can anyone explain in simple terms the main rotor size options and if I wanted to have larger rotors, how I would fit them. Is it just a case of fitting some kind of adaptor to move the callipers out ?

Rotors go from 140mm to 220mm. I find 180 front and 160 rear the way to go. Match the brackets to the calliper and rotor0

Depends what brakes you have. I used to run Hope M4's and they were more than powerful enough with 160mm rotors, since i've changed to Formula R1's I find I need a 180mm front and 160mm rear to get the same amount of power out of them, as the M4's.
My general rule is:
XC Race: 160mm (F&R)
XC/Trail: 180mm (F), 160mm (R)
Trail/AM: 200mm (F), 180mm (R)
DH: 200mm+ (F&R)
It also depends on how heavy you are. If you tiny you can get away with small rotors, if your huge you need huge rotors.
