Good afternoon,

i have spent the afternoon sorting my specialised rockhopper (2007) out after about 4 years of being in storage it needed a good sort out.

The only major casualty from what i can see from the last 4 years of neglect are the brakes. Avid Juicy 3 disk brakes.

The front brake lever has leaked fluid causing a drop in pressure in the front brake and the screws are rusted and need replacing.

the rear brake was rubbing so badly the wheel would not spin freely. So in my infinate wisdom i unscrewed the 2 bolts under the piston ( as it looked like thse were the only ones that would loosen the pads) and ended up spilling the fluid from the brakes. Resulting in the rear brake now not working at all when the lever is pulled. i know air in = bad !

anyway i have been looking at what would be needed to sort the damage out and from what i can see its going to cost about the same as a new set of brakes so are they worth fixing or can i get brakes cheaply that are as good if not better for about the same price as to repair them ?

Get some news brakes and sell the Avids as spare/repairs. Not worth the hassle.

And next time ask before doing something ........

The rears can be fixed with a bleed, easy job but you ned the right tools, fronts again a bleed and 2 new screws (maybe) will do it, for someone with a bleed kit a few minutes work.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
