Hi, I've got a Cube Acid, which has been upgraded with RockShoc Twin Air forks which have made the front end much better. but after a resent trip to Llandgela I feel as though it needs a rear shoc, I'm wondering whether to buy just a frame and fit all my kit on to it, or sell it and just buy a complete bike.

But I do love the way it's light weight and ridgid for climbing. What would you lot do
It's crossed my mind to buy wheels and go even lighter.
I'm not a racer, but I like to churn out 2-3hr rides,
I love Cannock and Llandegla cycle parks.

Not much to go on then, I'll try a larger section rear tyre first then and see if I can run the pressure just right.

Your question is very vague. I'd keep the hardtail and buy a full sus.

Yeah, I to think it's the only way forward as well. But I don't want the FS to weigh anymore than me upgraded Cube Acid with Twin Air Reba's. With out paying anymore than £1500. seen a Kona 2+2 on-line, but still unsure.

me mates have FS and I can keep up on the rough trails and over the rolling jumps but I get tried quicker but then again I climb the hills faster. swings and roundabouts.

  • How fast you are compared to your friends means nothing relative to how much fun you have. You could buy a FS bike, be faster than them but still have no more fun.

Cheers, the other option is to upgrade the wheels with a set of Easton EA90 XC, for more bling and weight saving.

EA90 wheels are not particularly light, and are expensive - better custom builds can be had.
  • So your 3 options are;

    #1 - make Cube lighter

#2 - buy FS frame and transfer over what you can

#3 - sell Cube and buy a complete FS bike

Personally I'd chose none of them.

I'd buy the FS frame and slowly build up an FS bike. It'll take longer and cost more but you can do things like get your lightweight wheels for the Cube and relegate the current ones to your FS build etc and more importantly you'll end up with 2 bikes...happy days :D

Hello, I'm interested to hear what wheel sets you would recommend. I've seen a set of EA90 @ 1/2 price.

I was going to keep the Cube and get a FS, I really confused as I've also seen a kona 2+2 @ £1250 new 2011.

So they are a bit lighter, 40g and cheaper by £64. Are those tubeless ready, I can't make it out.
Thanks very much. I'd love my next set to have white rims though.

Better bearings too, faster engagement in the hub, tubeless ready (with rim strip), hand built with a full compliment of spokes. Better wheels throughout.

How did you get from thinking you need a full suss to just buying lighter wheels for your Cube? I'm sure it's a good upgrade but I just don't see how spunking £300 on wheels solves your problem at all?

If you want a quickish full bouncer, why not save the money and put it towards a nice Canyon Nerve XC next year? The 6.0 is just over £1k. Got Reba forks too.
  • Re weight-saving: Is it the cube that needs updating or your fitness?

Re a new frame: I agree with getting another frame and slowly building up another bike over time.

Chris, I've hired a few FS bikes, AnthemX2, Kona 2+2, Trex Top Fuel 9, before I brought the HT Cube. Although they were great bikes it came down to £'s and still having to pedal them. I destroyed my forks and front wheel but replace the forks with better ones but replaced the front wheel with a cheap one and it shows. Hence the wheelset need.

70's nothing wrong with my fitness, I'm the bloke on the HT over taking FS riders who are pushing them up the steep hills. :]

Life and the kids have got the better of me just lately and I've still have not brought a set of wheels. But I have had a play with a 20" tube and some Stans fluid to make my wheels tubeless on the cheap. Bugger me it only works! I'm currently playing with tyre pressures. Youtu be is ace.
