Wanting try a shorter stem (wider bars?),riding alot of XC with rocky desents...current lenght 120mm...any suggestions on a sensible start or is it purely trial n error...cheers

But don't cut your bar to size till you've ridden it a while, as the change may take some getting used to, so do several rides before you decide. You can always run your controls inboard if you think your bar is too wide. I went from 110 & 680 on my GT to 65 & 745 which feels great. My Anthem's gone from 110 & 680 to 80 & 730 - but the bars were 750 when I first put them on. Not sure if this set up is 'right' yet, but it is close.
