Rattling plastic disc on the back wheel

The plastic disc that prevent the chain going over the last cog has started rattling. I know that some people remove them as they are not indispensable. How easy is it to remove the plastic disk? Thanks

    Use tools to do properly or you'll have to hack it off.

    I cut mine off with a pair of pliers and great care to avoid bending anything else. Took 10 minutes.

    I could of done it properly, but that would of maybe taken 12 minutes.
