My first new trainer in 20 years

I am used to the noisy fan trainers. I like the harder you push the more resistance you get. The old magnetic trainers seem to be a bit in-natural to me. However I know there are newer magnetic trainers that can adjust the resistance. Then the newer fluid machines which I have no experience with, which on some Internet sites say is the most preferred trainers now.

I prefer to buy something quieter than the fan models and would like some insight on this matter.
Thanks

  • I have the Jet fluid Pro which is quiet enough and offers a very good strong resistance curve.
Unlike the fluid 2 which I found weaker in comparison.
I have heard many a good word spoke about the Kurt Kinetic road trainer. And would like to try one to see how the Jet fluid pro compares.

I have Kurt Kinetic Rock and Roll. The fluid unit is brilliant. Unfortunately mine is not one of the upgradable RnR's to the heavier fly wheel.

the magnetic trainers are generally quietest. They have fair resistance too, most have more than the cycleops fluid 2 (I have both) and only about £100 starting price. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-volare-mag-alu-trainer/

I have the previous version, but it's more or less inaudible above your drivetrain. If you have the TV on too, you won't hear it. 2 years old and still going strong.

Variable resistance using your gears, no set up, robust and easily stored.

    Works well with trainer road.
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Then you'll want a fluid trainer. No faffing about with resistance settings. Want to suffer more? Then just change up a gear and pedal harder. I have a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine which I'm very pleased with. Cyclops Jet Fluid 2 is popular round these parts too.
