Chain snapped this afternoon and I was able to remove the bent link with my chain tool and put the cahin back together to ride 5 miles home.

I don't want to get a new chain if I don't have to. Would I be OK riding with a link down for a day or so till I can get a powerlink, or is a new chain the sensible option?

    If it's a 10 speed chain and you've joined it without using a powerlink or similar then expect it to break very soon.
    More problems but still living....

    If you can identify the pin you used to rejoin it at the roadside, remove it completely and join the chain with a KMC missing link or similar.

    If you can't be sure which pin it was, as already mentioned, a new chain would be the safest option.

    Once a chain snaps it's normally better to replace the chain, they normally snap for a reason, i.e. wear, and the chances are it will snap again. It sounds like a new chain and cassette for you I'm afraid.
