Something...best love song?

Something from the Beatles is, according to Sinatra, the best love song ever made. Sinatra himself wasn't too bad, but his version is a bit shaky. Was he right?

I think Sinatra was right, although "ne me quitte pas" or "if you go away" must be second

    RUBBISH!!!

Anything by Barry White beats a group of scruffy scousers who need haircuts in the love songs stakes.

And he was a keen cyclist

Yes, it could be anything by Barry White, because the always sound the same.

I've been berated on here before because i like the Beatles, and I do like "Something", it's a good song, The only No.1 of theirs to be written by George Harrison IIRC.

But, it's not the best love song in my opinion. A better one is " God only knows" by the Beach Boys, until I can think of another, and thought to be the best by Macca himself so there you go.

If you're limiting it to the Mop Tops, Here There & Everywhere beats Something by something a bit less than a country mile, more likely a couple of hundred yards maybe.

Beyond that lot though there are just too many to list. The first one that bounces gaily to the front of my head is A Woman's Heart by Eleanor McEvoy. Or Resplendent by Bill Malone & The Vigilantes Of Love. where do you stop though?

I'm an old romantic - this does it for me

I'll be the ticket if you're my collector

I've got the fare if you're my inspector

I'll be the luggage, if you'll be the porter

I'll be the parcel if you'll be my sorter

    and this

I should be lying on that sun-soaked beach with her
    Caressing her warm brown skin
And then in a year or maybe not quite
We'll be sharing the same next of kin

    xx

Oops, I forgot me smilies :D The Weller slagging was a bit tongue in cheek. Was a huge fan, not so much these days, but still rate him and he's the best dressed man in the land.

A couple of my fave love songs:

Small Faces - Afterglow (of your love), Tin Soldier
    Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone
Last Shadow Puppets - My mistakes were made for you
Elvis - You were always on my mind
Bowie - In the heat of the morning
Christie Moore - Black is the colour

Are the best love songs, or at least the ones which have the most meaning after becoming a "grown up", surely not the ones which describe lost love as opposed to new love?
In a novel by Louis' daddy Paul Theroux (Hotel Honolulu?) one character explains to another why he thinks Stephen King is crap: because it's much easier to write about the bad things in life than it is to describe the joy of the best things in life.
I think in literature this is often the case, but music seems to be able to convey joy better than words alone.

I therefore have a soft spot for Ce Ce Penisons Finally.

Thank you for that very that very thoughtful philosophical foresight totally out of bottom bracket character. However, I am now jumping up and down like a schoolboy on sherbert at a chocolate factory.

I have discovered how to do this: !!!

    Ha har

    and this

Right... back to the love songs

Can't you tell I'm a literature degree dropout? The reason I like this song is because it reminds me of my youthful (unsuccessful) attempts outside the disco at trying to pull the girl we lovingly named "Brickface". I managed to get hold of sheep's head, though. Eat that, sucker!
