And you know which ones you are; you've successfully ruined* CakeStop/Bottom Bracket/Whatever the OT section is now.
Now that you've ruined it, at least have the decency to be true to your word and contribute somethign every now and again.

*Was going to say f*cked, but not sure whether that's allowed.

I agree Matt, it just aint the same, surely its up to us though to make sure Cake Stop lives on in spirit On Bottom Bracket.

I m minded of The William Wallace speech in Braveheart, but after watching the tennis and it being so late I just cant be arsed to find it, but basically , we can only let the commuters kill us off if we allow it to happen.

The Mods have done what they had to do, so now lets get some spice into B/B.

None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Now it's all family friendly in Cake Stop, why doesn't someone pop into Commuting Chat and invite over the ones who were feeling all excluded and offended? If they don't contribute after that there's been no point to the changes and it can all go back to how it was before :)

I must admit that I'm 100% behind Matt on this one - its getting to the point that I can't be fecked anymore - theres no fun, the mods are deleting everything and its lost its sense of fun. .

No great loss some (most? all?) of you would say to see the back of me, but its been a great ride lads - lets see what we can do.

Communters? Twats, the lot of them.

No it would be a great loss.

Can you use your 'influence' over on mumsnet to get the mums to start posting on commuting chat, right up their street I would have thought, and it would liven up that part of the forum. Now where is the really evil grin/stick prodding/winding up symbol?

looks like most of the commuters liked cake stop especially the girls in... threads.

maybe its time to merge bb and cake stop
  • Yeah. I can't see the point of setting up a whole new sub-forum and then moving (nearly) all the Cake Stop threads into it was. Why didn't they leave the Cake Stop as it was, put the health warning/parental advisory sticker on it, and then set up a more heavily moderated sub forum (no naughty pictures etc) for general chat (although I don't think there was a demand for it)?
  • Also, there is supposed to be one general chat sub forum (more moderated) and one slightly less moderated one in each section - so The Hub, Cake Stop, Commuting General are the boring ones for the more easily offended, and CrudCatcher, Bottom Bracket, and Commuting Chat are the ones where you can (within reason) talk your mind and post more risqué pictures without risk of offending anyone. So, does this mean someone can start a thread called Communting Chicks (pictures of women on bikes, scantily clad with just a satchel covering up those bits which we are not allowed to see) on Commuting Chat?

err that is NOT what happened.

as was discussed the CS was renamed and a few suitable topics were moved out to the new cakestop.

it was changed to have to login to see the BB so as to keep any topic headings from appearing in the front page news feed.

so all that happened was a name change. but if you read what some people post you would think the world had ended.

but as it was not deemed necessary there has been no change and such topics would be removed.

I believe the "volunteer experienced moderators" claimed if commuting warranted an area like CC or BB it would be discussed.

So, you renamed the Cake Stop, and set up a new forum called Cake Stop, then you pinched some threads from the old Cake Stop (where they'd originally been posted) and scattered them around the new Cake Stop just to ensure it got some traffic and the whole thing didn't look like the waste of time that it actually was. I'm sorry but I can't see the logic in it.

Be careful there KBD, I received a days worth of bannage for such questioning.

None of the listed admins I pm'ed managed to answer any questions.
  • That would be a bit of a bummer, because then I'd have to log back in and I can't remember what my password is.
  • Would I get banned if I asked nicklouse how he would feel if he was forced to change his user name and they gave it to someone else?

    Not quite

There was Commuting which (obviously) was populated by those you commuted to work on bikes. This forum became very Londoncentric, some of the regular posters even started meeting up for pints, Silly Commuter Racing was born and the whole thing was just a bit of craic.

Then someone sh*t the bed because that's not what commuting is about. It's about mudguards and suchlike.

So the mods did what mods do. They created a new forum which died on it's ar*e because mudguards aren't very interesting and frankly it's only riding a bike to work.

Now, no mod will ever admit that Commuting General is a graveyard and creating a new forum was dumb.

The new forums are total sh1t!!

Commuters kicked up a fuss, caused our forum to be changed. Now it's modded like Germany in 1935 and the people who kicked started the whole thing (the communters) still just talk about helmet cam footage in the communting section and still don't bother with cake stop or BB.

It should just go back to the original cake stop.

I went over to Cake Stop in response to Matt's invite, even started a thread. I have no doubt it is populated only by a lone piece of tumbleweed. I then came over here as it's more interesting. I also don't get the point of all the changes, so I'll just have a browse through here on occasion when previously I may have gone to Cake Stop.

    Hi guys
This is my first visit to Bottom Bracket so I do hope you’ll be gentle with me. I was one of the original complainers when I agreed with DDD when it all kicked off a few months back, and when this topic reared its head in CC I thought I’d pay a visit to BB and see why it had been brought up again. I thought the more rational of you might want to hear my perspective.

As an introduction, I’m a girl. I’m a roadie. I commute to work. I cycle at weekends. I do sportives. I’ve cycled through the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. I watch the TdF and can understand it. I wear Rapha (yeah yeah, I know). I don’t have a Pashley, wear floral dresses or stick a puppy in my handlebar basket. I’m almost the same as you, apart from when I accidentally fall on my top tube it doesn’t hurt quite as much, and I need to wear a sports bra (although maybe some of you guys need them too!).

If I want to know say, the best cut of women’s shorts for women’s bums, then I’ll go to Women in MTB because they’ll give good feedback even though I don’t have a mountain bike. If I want to have a rant because some sweaty builder in a white van has slapped my @rse on my commute, I’ll go to Commuting Chat. If I want advice on what to take on a tour, I’ll go to Touring. If I want to rave about Bradley Wiggins, then I’ll go to Pro-Race. If I want a bit of an off-topic laugh, I’ll go to Cake Stop.

I stopped going to Cake Stop because it just got really full of the Girls in... threads and it stopped being relevant to me. It made me feel slightly uncomfortable having to wade through all these threads just to get to something else. It made me even more uncomfortable when a seemingly innocuously named thread was hijacked and suddenly I had some girl’s cleavage in my face on my lunch hour or a harmless thread about stereotypical women’s shopping habits that gradually turned misogynistic. And for those of you who say there wasn’t porn on the site, there was – I complained about a picture of a girl getting shafted from behind and it was taken down. So where am I supposed to go? There wasn’t a “clean” off-topic thread for roadies until the thread was split, so I came back and I like the new way – I can avoid Bottom Bracket completely.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m no shy retiring wallflower (or a lesbian, in case you were presuming I’m some Millie Tant type character). I’m just a normal girl who rides a bike. I ride it to work, I ride it at weekends, and I ride it on holidays. As I explained in the original argument, I’ve had the @rse slap twice on my commute. I’ve been flashed at four times. I’ve been locked in a walk-in fridge when I was a chef and had my erm, undercarriage groped. I’ve had a gang of male chefs all whack their c0cks out on a table and ask which one I preferred when I was still a teenager. This kind of stuff happens a lot more often than you guys probably realise. But I can hold my own and I can give it back. I don’t want to have to do it on a cycling website though. I just don’t want t!ts and @rses in my face when I’m on BR. Is that so hard to understand? Cycling is still a really male-orientated sport, although this is starting to change a little. I’d be interested to know if you welcome this, or if you see it as an exclusive blokes club that women aren’t supposed to be a part of?
