Just got this link from the postie and opened it, it looks deformed or is this what a Wippermann Connex speed links look like? do they have to go on a certain way?

They are nice links - you can actually undo them first time without anger

I've always had them with the gentle curve on the inside. I probably did look it up when I got the chain it came with!

Did you think the mice had been at it?!

In both your pics the gentle curve is at the top and the sharper curve to the bottom. I would fit that link so that if it were on the top run of the chain, the gentle curve was facing downwards.

This might help - he says to place the chamfered side of the link (which is I think the one I suggested) towards the chainring.

Jesus man you need xray vision which i dont have to spot the difference between the chamfered bits on the two links, so if the chamfered bit is to face the chainring i assume they mean the outside edge of the chainring furtherst away from the bike frame. the link closest to the writing is the one.

Have a look on the Wippermann website. There is a video of fitting them correctly. Also, you should have got a massive instruction sheet with the link (takes up more room than the link in the box).
Recipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.

What you need to worry about is which way up the V-/heart-shaped hole in the middle goes

It does matter which way up - will join either way, but wrong way makes it jump as chain can't bend properly when it goes around jockey wheels

Look, it really can't be that hard! There's only two ways to put the link on!

This is my last attempt - if you are still stuck after this you're on your own!

Apologies for the MTB chainring but it was my only bike without a chain currently on!

In the YouTube vid, the heart/V is pointing up...because it's on the bottom of the chainring.

In Rolf's pic, it's pointing down...because it's on the top of the chainring.
Rotate the chainring and when the link gets to the bottom of it, it'll point...up !

Or rotate my picture so it's upside down!
