I am heading down to Bourg D'Oisans in a weeks time but will be staying in Macon for one night. As I will be there by lunch time I plan on going for a ride in the afternoon and was wondering whether anyone can recommend a route or sights worth seeing around there.

Thanks.

There are some lovely roads out to the west- gentle hills through vineyards. Depends where in the town you're staying (and how arsed you can be getting out of the more built up west side of Macon). If you want flat, flat, flat - and straight-ish (more farmland: less vineyards); go east. I'm a hill lover, myself, but it's still pretty damn splendid, though. It's France, innit! Difficult to go anywhere there that's not gorgeous...
