Hi guys, I'm looking at buying a hardtail MTB, Gonna be using it to ride to and from work and some weekends light trails.
Looking at spending around £500 but can go a bit higher... Maybe £600/650 depending on if it's worth the push in price.
Ideally wanting something I can go to the store and have a look at first, Probably Evans Cycles. I live in Bradford btw.
Got a few bikes I'm looking at at the moment:

Job done then. Find a Decathlon and try one for size.

The RR 8.1 is THE best value for money £500 bike you can get right now, although the VooDoo HooDoo and some others from Halfords get close.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
-
If you are not going off-road much, is the Boardman Urban at a possible £522 with the 10% halfords discount and 3% off with quidco not the better value than the 8.10
-
And I'm willing to go to 600/650... Is there any I've missed for over 500?...0
-
Only the Boardman Comp.0
-
What about the Urban? Reduced from 850 to 600 at the mo...0

Unless you are seriously hardcore you'll want some suspension I would imagine?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

What sort of riding are you going to be doing? The urban has a rigid fork, which is fine for commuting (and most trails if you don't mind your arms being shaken off) and very light trails whereas the comp has an air fork0
-
I'm wanting it mainly for comuting but on weekends trails too so don't want rigid...0
-
The boardman comp or the rockrider would be a good choice then dependant on budget. If you get the rockrider you'll have a bit left over for shorts/tops/helmet/gear etc0
-
The Rockrider doesn't do anything for me though, I don't like the look of it at all. I know its not about the looks but yeah lol I really like the Canyon.0
-
Rubbish fork, but has an XT mech with the rest Alivio. Weird.0

Yep0
-
Are they that much worse to make a difference to the type or riding I'll be doing though? Comuting to work and light trails...0

I'm pretty sure all of those bikes will work, There's just obviously differences in how well they will work?... But like, I said, the type of riding I'll be doing, Will there be a noticeable difference?0
