Hi
I'd really appreciate some advice.
I'm just getting back in to cycling and want a bike to ride for fitness, around the lanes, green lanes and on dartmoor (on paths, trails) as well as commuting to work a day or two a week (9 miles each way).
I was looking at a 29er mountain bike, but then started to think a hybrid would possibly be better. I realise they are a compromise but found this Felt on offer that sounds quite a good spec and looks more mountain bike than road bike for the offroad use:

The Boardmans look great but not really suitable for off road, cannondale cx2 also a possible.
I've been going round in circles a bit so would really appreciate some advice!
Thanks
Adam

A light weight 29er rigid or hardtail on slicks would be great on roads, just make sure you get one with locking suspension as you'll only need that on singletrack and downhill runs.

Try here for some ideas: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic ... rigid-29er
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
  • Thanks for the advice.
I've ended up going for the felt as I thought the gearing on a mountain bike may be too slow for my commute.
    Pleased with it so far...

True, easy to get around though, just swap the 44T for a 48T big ring like on the Felt.

I'm currently looking to build my own am between 29er and CX wanting Ti frame, drops and discs which every way I go so I may procrastinate for some time as it'll cost a bomb and take a while.
