Versa 8 Shifters for Shimano Alfine - Niggle

Has anyone experienced an issue with Versa 8-Speed shifters whereby on a single change down the shifter appears to dump a load of cable causing the hub to drop to 1st gear regardless of what gear you were in previously? It seems to be fairly random - some shifts are ok, others not etc. When it does dump the cable you have to "wind" it back up again by changing up to where you want to be...it still appears to be indexed in this respect.

I think I have all my "yellow dots" alligned on the hub, but it appears to make no difference.

Does anyone have a diagnosis or better still a cure?

Thanks

Sounds like the pawl isn't re-engaging in the shifter, nothing to do with cable or hub, open it, clean it, lube it, reassemble it!
